[edit] Templates

  1. The "class" template uses the phrase "compatible with". I suggest using the wording "usable on" or "available on" (or "Availability") instead.

  1. Where do I find a list of all templates that are declared in this wiki? I searched the wikipedia help but did not find out how.

Try here [[1]] ~
I also categorized all the templates in use in a Category:Template. It allows to have an alphabetical list of the templates and to display only the one we want (i.e. hiding the "testing" or too "experimental" stuff). There is a link to such category in the Contribution guidelines. SteffX 05:27, 23 February 2008 (EST)

[edit] Naming add-on pages

Stéphane, I have added a rule on how to name wiki pages that refer to 3rd pary classes and alikes. See Help:Adding_A_New_Page.

Basically, I like them to use namespaces that relate to the owner of the classes so that we do not get into name collisions when two people want to have each a page for the "UndoEditField" page. My current rule is to prefix such pages with "User:xxx:" (where xxx is the user's wiki name). Are you OK with that? Tempel 06:13, 27 February 2008 (EST)

While the idea is good, I am not very keen on the "User:xxx" prefix because:
  • It messes up the alphabetical list in Category:AddOns and makes things really difficult to read
  • We may submit add-ons that do not correspond to any wiki user. Which prefix should we use in such a case ?
I then propose that we instead append the author to the name of the add-on. Something like: UndoEditField (by Tempel). What do you think ? SteffX 06:36, 27 February 2008 (EST)

Yes, you're right. Let's use the suffix as you suggest. Can we delete wiki pages again, or redirect them? I wonder if we can "fix" pages if people did not follow the guidelines. Tempel 15:21, 29 February 2008 (EST)

We cannot delete pages but we can rename them with the "move" button on top of the window. So, yes we can fix badly named pages. SteffX 03:16, 1 March 2008 (EST)

[edit] 3rd party extensions on lang ref pages

What do you think of adding a section listing non-RS add-ons on the individual language ref pages?

See here: http://www.declaresub.com/wiki/index.php/Listbox#3rd_party_extensions

Maybe we should renamed the section title ("3rd party add-ons" or simply "Add-ons"?)

I'd find that pretty helpful as people do not have to search the Addons-category to find a solution when they're looking up "listbox".

Nice idea ! SteffX 13:06, 3 March 2008 (EST)

[edit] Apache rewrite for "rbwiki.net"

Charles is OK that we'd make "rbwiki.net" the new default name for this wiki, instead of the long declaresub url. He asked me to provide him with the necessary rewrite commands for the webserver, but I am not too familiar with those. Do you know how to do that? Basically, we want to rewrite a link like

http://www.declaresub.com/wiki/index.php?title=

into

http://rbwiki.net/

I've seen this done, but it's magic to me.

Tempel 09:14, 3 March 2008 (EST)

I don't know anything to URL rewriting, but it seems to me that the MediaWiki software has an option to do it automagically (called Short URLs).
